Six Suggestions To Keep From Being Run Over By Your Toddler

September 30th, 2008 by Terry Stanfield

by Terry Stanfield

Parents of toddlers face many challenges. Young children are curious, active, and imaginative, but they can also be exasperating at the same time. While watching your child learn and grow is an amazing experience, dealing with a toddler can leave parents frustrated, especially if they don’t know the best methods of teaching toddlers.

If your toddler is a handful, you need to learn positive ways to deal with their energy and needs without being run over by your toddler. If you are having trouble with your young child you are not alone and these six tips can help.

Set a good example for your toddler. Young children imitate what they see and the actions you do will directly affect the way you act. If young children see their parents yell, scream, and act inappropriately they are much more likely to do so as well.

Toddlers need a routine. Many of the daily meal time, nap time, and bed time battles can be avoided if you have a routine associated with the activity. Toddlers have an easier time following rules when they know exactly what to expect.

Temper tantrums are the worst nightmare of parents of toddlers. It is very common but toddlers don’t throw temper tantrums just to make you mad. Toddlers are just beginning to get a grip on verbal skills and do not always have the words to express what they are feeling. Next time your toddler has a tantrum try understanding and acknowledging their feelings.

Another notorious toddler issue is being a picky eater. There is no simple solution that works for every picky eater, but it is important to offer a variety of new foods on a regular basis. It may take ten, twenty, or more time of trying a new food before your child will eat it so keep trying.

Many parents expect their toddlers to share, cooperate, and get along with other kids. Toddlers are learning a tremendous amount and social skills are usually one of the later things to develop after physical, verbal, and emotional skills. Children should be discourage from hitting and hurting others and re directed, but don’t expect them to have a firm grasp on playing nicely, sharing, and taking turns. Pre-schoolers are better able to socially interact so don’t set your expectations of your toddler’s social skills too high.

Everyone needs their own space and time to relax and unwind. Your toddler needs time to relax just like you so make sure you plan quiet activities for them.

Toddlers can be challenging, but the rewards of watching your wobbly toddler grow into a confident child are well worth it. With plenty of love and guidance your toddler will become a well adjusted pre-schooler.

Cubic Jewelry: Guidelines on Creating and Finding a Shape

September 28th, 2008 by Amanda Maseko

by Amanda Maseko

Creating your own jewelry can sound like a much more difficult process than it actually is. It will take some work, patience and resolve on your part to get the project through to completion. Now let’s look at some of the steps to creating your own cubic zirconia jewelry.

You have to decide the type of materials you want to use. The stone color(s) you want and the type of metal. Gold or silver metal may be a little more expensive than you want to spend for you first effort at making jewelry. You may want to start off making your first attempts in something cheaper. Get the mistakes out of the way before you progress to the gold, silver or platinum stages. Stainless steel would be a good choice of a material to use on your first attempt to making your own cubic zirconia jewelry.

Gather all the materials you will need to make your piece of jewelry. If you need to make a list, don’t start making your piece of jewelry until you have all the materials you need all together. You will hate getting to the “good part”, so to speak, and have to stop because you forgot one item. Double or even triple checking all the materials is a good way to insure you have everything you need.

Choosing the shape of your cubic zirconia

If you choose to have a piece of cubic zirconia jewelry custom-made, with a design of your own creation or a design chosen from a designer, you will want to choose the right cut of stone to enhance the design. A cubic zirconia stone will come in the same type of cuts you will see in a diamond. Diamond cutters are always trying to come up with new and unique cuts for the stones. These listed below are the most popular cuts of diamonds, gemstones and cubic zirconia.

Marquise - The marquise is a long, almost slender cut of stone. It is pointed at both of ends and is slightly rounded in the middle. This cut can be made to be longer or shorter depending on the design of the ring or the preference of the client.

Heart - The heart is a frivolous fun creation. The heart shape stones have been used in many different settings of earrings, necklaces and rings. Recently it has become more popular in rings especially engagement rings.

These cuts of stone are well known and are very popular when choosing cubic zirconia jewelry. When choosing cubic zirconia jewelry, you will have these stones to pick from as well as some unique cuts not mentioned here. Choose jewelry to enhance your style whether it is one of the well known cuts or a unique cut only owned and worn by you.

The arrival of a new baby is an exciting time for the whole family and can be challenging for parents of toddlers. Young children who are expecting a new sibling can experience anxiety, jealousy, and other negative feelings which are very common. There are many things you can do to prepare your toddler for a new baby.

If your toddler is anxious about the arrival of a new sibling there are many things you can do to alleviate their fears and make the transition easier for them. Here are six tips for preparing your toddler for a new sibling.

Don’t tell them too early that you are expecting a new baby. Toddlers do not have a good grasp on time and will no usually understand that a new baby will be coming in nine months. Wait until it is obvious that you are expecting and then explain that there is a baby on the way.

Get your toddler involved in the pregnancy. Have your toddler feel your belly, accompany you to prenatal visits, and sonograms to make the idea of having a baby more concrete.

You should also involve your toddler in planning for your new baby. Let them pick out some items for the new baby and help to decorate the baby’s room or get the house ready for your new arrival.

Make sure you make your toddler feel special while bust preparing for the new baby. Allow them to get a new special item to celebrate the new baby if the baby has many new things in the house.

Set aside a special time for your toddler every day, just a few minutes just for the two of you when you do something fun. Continue with your special routine and make sure they know that the baby will not change your special time.

Have your child pick out a special gift for the new baby that can be from them to the baby so that they feel like they are an important part of welcoming their new sibling. Allow your toddler to interact with the baby so that they feel important as well, but do not push the interaction or force them to help.

A new sibling is an exciting time for children. Toddlers can have trouble adjusting to a new baby but giving them one on one attention and involving them with their new sibling can help to ease the transition.

What to look for when buying antique or estate diamond jewelry

September 28th, 2008 by Afshin Shaddaie

by Afshin Shaddaie

Summary: Buying antique or estate jewelry? Remember the four Cs: cut, color, clarity and carat weight and be aware of two more: cost & credibility, to be sure you’re getting an antique, not just used jewelry.

When buying antique or estate jewelry, there’s more to keep in mind than just the four Cs (cut, color, clarity and carat weight ). You’ve got to know whether you’re purchasing an actual antique or simply an estate piece. So consider two more Cs: cost and credibility.

Cut: Cut is one of the most important considerations when buying a diamond. The way a gem is cut affects its appearance, its durability and its value. Diamonds are usually cut to best accentuate their clarity and brilliance. The most common shape for diamonds is brilliant (or round); other popular shapes are baguette, marquise, oval, pear and princess (square) cuts.

Color: Diamonds’ grades range from D through Z. Many diamonds may appear to be colorless (or white), but they may have traces of impurities or other elements, which give them a slight yellow or brown tint. D-color diamonds are extremely rare and highly valuable. Color variants in diamonds in the D-F range are often so slight that differentiating among them becomes tremendously difficult in smaller-sized stones. G-rated diamonds are fairly clear; but the further down the alphabet you go, the deeper the color concentration.

Sometimes, diamonds occur naturally in a variety of colors: blues, bright yellows, greens, pinks - even vivid reds. These “fancy” diamonds are extremely rare, expensive and highly valuable.

Clarity: Clarity refers to the size and number of inclusions or imperfections in a diamond. Most of these inclusions are non-crystallized carbon traces, undetectable by the unaided eye. The average consumer would need a microscope (a considerable period of scrutiny and maybe even a trained jeweler) to see them.

The larger and more numerous the inclusions, the greater the chance of light-dispersion interference - which diminishes the diamond’s brilliance. The greater the number and size of the inclusions, the less valuable the diamond; the converse is true as well: The fewer and smaller the inclusions, the more valuable the diamond.

Diamonds are rated according to their clarity under 10x magnification. Diamonds rated IF contain only minor external flaws, which may be removed by polishing. Diamonds rated VVS1 and VVS2 are “very, very slight.” VS1- and VS2-rated diamonds have “very slight” inclusions. Inclusions in SI1- and SI2-rated stones are “slight”; and the I1- I2- and I3-rated stones contain imperfections large enough to be visible to the unaided eye.

Carat Weight: Diamonds are weighed in carats; this doesn’t refer to size, shape or diameter. One carat may be divided into units of 100 points; therefore, a -carat diamond is described as being 50 points or 0.50 carat. The larger the diamond, the more expensive it is, per carat; a one-carat diamond costs more than two half-carat diamonds of like cut and clarity.

Cost & Credibility: The higher the quality of your chosen diamond, the more it is worth. But don’t assume you’re getting a valuable diamond because you’re paying a lot. That’s where credibility factors in. By credibility, we mean, “Are you buying this diamond from a reputable dealer?” and “Are you actually getting what the dealer says you’re getting?” Is this ring being represented as an “antique” when it’s actually “estate” jewelry (a fancy term for pre-owned)? The best way to know for sure is to know your jeweler. To ensure you get the best jewelry for your buying dollar, from a reputable dealer with years of experience, visit Estate Diamond Jewelry. All they do is estate and antique jewelry.

Diamond watches - A perfect engagement gift for the one you love.

September 27th, 2008 by Neil J. Daniel

by Neil J. Daniel

Like it happens in many parts of the world, a Spanish woman would usually receive a diamond-studded engagement ring when she accepts a marriage proposal. These are very attractive looking but diamond watches for men and women can also be gifted which are useful too. There are usually some top ranking names of the industry behind the making of such high-demand pieces and jewelers would normally major in the various types of this jewelry.

Tacori, for example is a designer known for its diamond jewelry meant for weddings and mixes the classical and modern styles with deftness. For some of the most colorful and exotic pieces depend on Hildago creations whereas engagement rings from the 130-year old company Christian Bauer are available from select outlets and their diamond jewelry is made only to order.

Never be under the notion that any diamond can find its way on to these exclusive pieces since the stones have to be checked and certified for grades of color and clarity and only then selected.

Diamond watches are a kind of jewelry which are liked and used by both men and women. Interestingly, the first wrist watches were nothing but diamond bracelets with a tiny time piece put on it.

The first of such a type emerged when Earl of Leicester gifted a similar kind to Queen Elizabeth I and consisted of a small round clock embellished with diamonds and was like a pendant to a wristband. Chances are that this was the first genuine diamond timepiece for ladies.

Men, on the other hand wanted to wear pocket watches till WWI in stead of choosing wrist watches which according to them were rather unmanly. After the airplane came into being, it also brought with it the fist wristwatch for men. The reason for this is since there was no fuel gauge in the early aircrafts both hands had to be kept on the controls always. Therefore it was necessary to have a timepiece that (a) allowed the pilot to keep track of his range and how much fuel was left, and (b) did not necessitate the removal of his hands from the controls in order to reach for a pocket watch!

It so happened that the time when diamond engagement rings became famous coincided with that of wrist watches for men. Today the three most renowned diamond watches are made by Cartier of France, Citizen from Japan and Movado from Switzerland.

When you hear the words ‘runs like a Swiss watch’, remember, the products of the last company is behind this praise. Movado who has a range of nearly 200 clearly defined and characteristic diamond watches, have been in this business for a century now.

Six Things You Should Know About Your Two Year Old

September 26th, 2008 by Terry Stanfield

by Terry Stanfield

Parents of toddlers have watched their children grow at an astonishing rate. The amount of growth from one year to the next is tremendous in young children and the foundation for learning is laid early during this period. Two year olds have very different needs than younger toddlers as they begin to learn new skills and understand the world around them.

Every child is different, but there are some common behaviors that most two year olds share. They are curious, still rely on their parents for security and support, and can have a hard time with social interaction. If you need tips on training and teaching toddlers here are six things you should know about your two year old.

Two year olds generally begin to show an interest in playing with others, but they will mostly play alongside other children rather than with them. It won’t be for another year or so that toddlers have the social skills necessary to play cooperative games with other children.

Parents of toddlers are often warned about the “terrible twos” when tantrums are frequent. Toddlers often have tantrums because they are not able to express themselves and their emotions verbally yet; so help them to verbalize their feelings to minimize tantrums.

Toddlers learn best when they are able to create things on their own rather than copying an adult made example. It may seem important that they color in the lines or make a bunny just like yours, but really it’s the process of creation that is the best teaching tool.

Many parents stress over teaching toddlers how to share, take turns, and interact wih others. While these are important skills that they will eventually learn, do not expect them to share or take turns by two years, they are busy developing physically and verbally, social development will happen later.

Some parents try to train toddlers to use their right hand, but handedness won’t develop for another year or two. So don’t worry if they use both for drawing, coloring and other tasks, it is normal for two year olds to switch hands frequently when doing these tasks.

Two year olds lean best through exploring and experiencing the world around them. Encourage safe exploration by providing many opportunities to manipulate everyday objects in a variety of settings.

Parents of toddlers often worry about how to help their children learn and grow. Allowing your toddler to explore safely and setting realistic expectations of their abilities are the best way to facilitate learning.

The One Bra That Will Save You Money

September 26th, 2008 by Tiffany Hart

by Tiffany Hart

The superior bra is the one that gives you plenty of support combined with comfort. The best in these two areas usually are not the most elegant, so what are you to do when it comes time to attend special events?

As you well know, a particular look is attributable to a special occasion. The dress you wear to a ball is entire different than the one you wear to funeral. Obviously, this is an extreme example, but emphasizes the point that there is a bra for every occasion.

This raises the rather obvious question of which brassiere goes with which event? Should you be wearing a plunging piece to a business holiday part or something a bit more reserved?

You probably have some ideas from images of models you have seen. A quick word of caution when considering such images. Models are shooting for a moment in time. They add tape to the bras to get a look. View the images with a grain of salt.

I have very good news for you. There are many special occasions, but there is one bra that works with most. Yes, the convertible brassiere. From a one shoulder strap dress to an outfit with some serious cleavage, this is a great bra.

Unlike a convertible car, this bra does not come down per se. Instead, the straps that go over your shoulder are not only adjustable like a normal bra, but can be unclipped. This means you can reconfigure them to just about any style.

The key to the convertible bra is to remember that the support should come from the band around the bottom. The shoulder straps should only provide occasional cup support. Your breasts should be pushed up, not pulled up.

Assume you are wearing a dress with one shoulder strap. You can remove the bra strap for the bare shoulder. The other strap is left on and rides up over the shoulder that is covered. You get security without compromising your look.

The ingenious benefits of this bra are obvious when we consider a strapless dress. Instead of spending money on strapless bras, we can just use our convertible bra. Remove both straps and we suddenly have our strapless bra.

Is the convertible bra right for every occasion? No. It is a poor choice if you have a plunging open back on your dress since the band will show. Other than that, however, it covers nearly all special occasions.

Earrings: A Wide Selection

September 25th, 2008 by Fabian Toulouse

by Fabian Toulouse

For centuries, many cultures have practiced ear piercing. In certain cultures, ear piercing celebrates a coming-of-age. In tribal cultures, the ears were pierced with precious metals to ward off demons, as the belief was foul spirits could enter the human body through the ears. Apart from the earlobe itself, piercings can be placed on virtually any part of the ear, including the helix or cartilage, the rook, the snug, the conch, or even the anti-tragus, which is the inner ear cartilage.

There are many types of earrings, but the most common are stud, hoop, and dangle earrings. Stud earrings are usually straight stemmed, with decorative fronts and removable backings. From the front view, studs appear to float on the ear lobes without any visible backing.

Hoop earrings, as the name implies, are circular or semi-circular. They look very much like rings and are often made of metal tubing. Dangle earrings, on the other hand, are designed to hang from the bottom of the earlobes. They are available in various lengths and are attached to the ear by thin wires that hook at the back. This is a variation of the famous French hook design, which simply allows the earring to hang from the earlobe without closure.

Presently, it has become fashionable in some sub-cultures and even in the mainstream, to use body-piercing jewelry in lieu of conventional earrings. These radical pieces are often worn by punk rockers, body piercing and tattoo enthusiasts. The pieces include captive bead rings (or CBR), barbells, circular barbells, banana barbells, flesh plugs and flesh tunnels.

Captive bead rings, also known as ball closure rings, are a style of body piercing jewelry consisting of ring with a scant gap for insertion through the ear. The gap is closed with a small bead held in place by the ring’s pressure. Larger gauge ball closure rings exert considerable pressure, and may require ring-expanding pliers to insert and remove the bead. Be careful!

For those who want to wear earrings without getting any piercings, there are many options to choose from. Popular choices are clip-on, stick-on, ear cuff, ear screws and spring hoop earrings. Though there can be no accounting for taste, for those who run in more conservative circles (or tasteful ones), there is nothing that compares to a pair of treasured pearl earrings.

The Tales of Fine Jewelry

September 25th, 2008 by Fabian Toulouse

by Fabian Toulouse

When you think about fine jewelry and everything that goes with it, you might find that your thoughts go back in time! Despite more modern techniques that craftsmen in the past could only dream of, there is a certain charm that ancient jewelry could achieve that we find difficult to duplicate even today. The time that went into crafting a piece of fine jewelry in the past could create something that ever hundreds of years later, is still held in awe by the people looking at it.

Upon reflection, it is clear jewelry has come a long way from its beginnings. Jewelry resounds very deeply for people, as indeed it seems to have struck a chord with our ancestors. The first kinds of jewelry were made from all manner of materials, including animal teeth, bones, stones, and pieces of wood. It is believed these early pieces held more than a mere decorative function, they could well have been viewed as divinely inspired or otherworldly.

These ancient beliefs have carried over through the millennia. Jewelry pieces are still considered to contain mystical or ceremonial qualities. Many people believed that jewelry pieces of various stones or metals will keep them from harm. For instance, fathers who wanted to make sure that their childbirth was easy would wear coral, either in pendent form or as beads around their wrists. In China, parents would give their children jade to wear to protect them from falling accidents or from breaking their bones. Think about the lucky ring or necklace that you wear and consider the properties that you believe it brings you.

When you look at jewelry, especially in the ancient world, you find you are looking at a type of portable wealth. Not only do you have the importance of the stone itself, you also have the worth of the labor involved in creating it. Jewelry could also be a cherished gift as well. The Vikings, for instance, were known for giving the broad flat rings that were worn above the elbow to minstrels and various esteemed guests.

When you start thinking about fine jewelry, you soon discover there is a wealth of information coded into each piece. Whether that information relates to history, spirituality, or even cultural behaviors, it is obvious there is a great deal to be gleaned. Take a moment and think about what your fine jewelry will mean in the future.

Design a Wedding Ring, But Choose the Right Designer

September 23rd, 2008 by Geraldine Dimarco

by Geraldine Dimarco

Young couples who plan to marry should spend some quality time when it comes to choosing their wedding rings, or the designer who they will select to design a wedding ring for them. This is something a couple will do alone as it should be a special time. Quality jewelers are not always easy to find and those that specialize in wedding rings are even harder. Many people, however, make the mistake of going to a jewelry store in a mall.

Although you will undoubtedly find you can buy this type of ring in a mall jewelers, they may not have the range or the quality of a specialist. When choosing, you will want a ring for the bride that will complement the engagement ring she is already wearing. That’s why having a designer design a wedding ring for you could be your best option.

The engagement ring is meant to be more stunning than the wedding ring so be careful what you choose. some rings have been made to complement each other and these should be the type you seek. Alternatively you will just need to spend time trying new diamond wedding rings or even plain gold wedding bands until you find one that matches the engagement ring.

The most commonly sought after metals for rings are Platinum, Yellow Gold, Silver, Titanium and White Gold. Increasing numbers of couples are choosing the longer lasting platinum. Platinum is a particularly good choice for rings as they keep their looks for much longer than gold and men appreciate the strength that is inherent in platinum. It is important the ring looks good for many years. Men are the people most likely to have a manual position, and also the most likely of the couple to damage the wedding ring! Having a specialist design a wedding ring for both the bride and the groom will help, as the designer should take these matters into account when designing the rings.

To ensure both wedding rings fit on the wedding day, it will be necessary to have both of them re-sized correctly. This means you will need to have them professionally adjusted and not rely on a guess. You want to be sure the ring will fit correctly; this will prevent it from being too tight or too loose and slipping off.

If you want to make sure your rings are ready in good time for the wedding, give your jeweler plenty of time to complete any adjustments. He may have a number to complete and you do not want a problem on the wedding day. Choosing wedding bands you will both like and that match the engagement ring may take some time; allow for this as it is not uncommon for couples to choose in haste and then regret their decision later.

Wedding rings represent the love two people have for one another. Perhaps now, the reason for the time spent choosing a ring has been made clearer.
