Fashion And Cross Necklaces

September 3rd, 2010 by Andrea Gregorio

Cross necklaces, in the past have always been a very bold statement of one’s religion, and a powerful reminder that faith is the key to God’s Kingdom.

The Cross necklaces have always been here even before the birth of Christ. Celtics and Romans have used crosses to symbolize their religion and beliefs. In the last Centuries, Cross necklaces had been a sign of power and prestige, too. The Roman Catholic Church priests used to wear big, bold necklaces around their necks to symbolize their profession and position.

However, in this very modern age, especially in the Western culture, the gentlemen, the ladies, even the children wear cross jewelry as a fashion statement. Everyone at any age, any race or any religion, is now used to the idea that cross jewelry are not just for religion anymore, but more of a fashion statement that anyone, at any religion or belief can avail of.

The most common cross jewelry is the cross necklace. The reason perhaps is the fact that when you are conversing to somebody, the first things you notice are the objects in your field of vision, mainly the head and the neck.

There are lots of types of cross necklaces in the market:

Celtic cross necklaces. These are the crosses that have an intricate ring around the intersection of the lines. Contrary to the name denotes, Celtic crosses are not just from the Celts. Pagans and Christians, especially the protestants and the Catholics have used the Celtic cross.

Gold Cross Necklaces. Gold have always been a classic jewelry, and cross necklaces are no exemption to this. Gold cross necklaces come in yellow, white, even reddish colors.

Wooden Cross Necklace. When people hear the word, “jewelry”, most of them will think of precious stones or metal. However, cross necklaces have evolved from being pricey to affordable, like wooden cross necklaces.

There are many more kinds of cross necklaces out there. Do a quick search in Yahoo or Google and you might find a site that features cross necklaces!

Classic Jewelry Items - What To Consider

September 3rd, 2010 by Mark Walters

Fashion changes all the time and this is no less the case with items of jewelry. Different trends come and go, but there are always some things that remain timeless, things that will always remain in fashion. One such example is classic items of jewelry, often favored for their elegance and class, especially when it comes to more formal occasions. These timeless pieces can be bought at many stores, both in the high street and online, though some stores will specialize specifically in vintage items.

One of the most popular classic items of jewelry are antique rings for weddings, engagements and even anniversaries. Jewelry of this sort is often, inherently timeless and not affected a great deal by the changing trends of society. Such jewelry, favored for its aura of refinement and elegance, is never going to be going away. These vintage designs are constantly being revived by jewelers and there are always many different choices available. A quick browse through the Internet will reveal that.

The only real disadvantage with antique jewelry that concerns most people is the price. Vintage items are often expensive, even more so than current, trendy modern designs. However, when it comes to certain formal occasions such as engagements or weddings, antique jewelry conveys value and respect. It is often much more worthy. However, there are many other forms of classic jewelry including vintage items for men. Again, prices will seldom be low, but for something of such stature, it will never be cheap.

Classic jewelry designs will always cost quite a lot so before going and buying that perfect piece be it for you or for a loved one, you are going to need to take care to do your research appropriately and make sure that you are familiar with the different types and styles. You need to also consider the situation to make sure that what you are buying is appropriate for it. There are many different areas of the classic jewelry market and they vary greatly so do not forget this when it comes to purchasing something.

The timeline of classic jewelry is one thing that you need to take into consideration if you are interested in buying the perfect period piece. Styles from Victorian times, Art Deco styles and even much earlier styles are still heavily influential and highly popular. Familiarizing yourself with the sheer diversity and historic timeline of these different trends is key to finding the perfect item of jewelry. It is items like these that will simply never be falling out of fashion.

September 2nd, 2010 by Andrew Kelley

Wedding is one of the most joyful events in one’s life. The union of the two souls during the wedding brings in a beginning of a new chapter in one’s life. And thus this special event of one’s life is celebrated with various customs. Some of the customs are confined to certain communities only and some of these are has a world wide acceptance. These customs are followed throughout most of the communities and countries of the world. One of such widely followed custom is the exchange of the wedding rings between the bride and the groom during their marriage. As because of its world wide acceptance and as this custom is followed throughout the world and so many cultures and communities follows this tradition that there is sure to be some changes for different communities. But though there are diversities the basic concept of the exchange of the rings still remains the same. This is such a custom that has come across ages and still the popularity has not been dimmed even by an inch.

The exchange ceremony plays a very vital role in one’s marriage and the ring worn by the bride or the groom symbolic representation of marriage itself. It is a symbol that indicates one’s commitment and loyalty to his or her spouse. The wedding rings are made of different elements. Most commonly precious metals like gold, silver, white gold or platinum are used as the base element for the ring. And according to the most common tradition the wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger of the left hand.

There is a traditional belief that there is a vein that generates from the forth finger of the left hand and goes straight to the heart. But in actual reality and according to the medical science there is no existence of any such vein. However, still in most cases the custom is followed and the bride and the groom both wear the ring on the fourth finger of the left hand.

As for the metal of the ring gold is the most preferred choice. Most of the people are in favor of choosing gold as the material for the wedding ring. Not only does it looks great but also fits the tradition perfectly. The magnificent charm of the gold brings in a new glitter in the lovely relationship. But these days it is seen that in case of the wedding ring yellow gold is often replaced by white metals like platinum or white gold. No wonder that the platinum ring brings with itself a great charm and flavor to the wedding.

Even white gold an alloy of gold and other white metals like nickel, silver or palladium is also quite in demand these days. If you want a costly white gold ring you can then go for the gold and palladium alloy or if your pocket cannot afford that much then you can choose other less costly metals like nickel or silver along with gold. Whatever may be the ring made of the main thing is that it is the symbol of your ever lasting love for your beloved therefore choose your wedding ring carefully for her.

What Is Precious Metal Clay?

September 1st, 2010 by William Bartolo

PMC (PMC) is really a clay-like medium used for a variety of artistic pursuits. It consists of water, an organic binding material, and tiny particles of either silver or gold. Various other metal clays exist on the market and can contain silver, platinum, copper, and gold. There are varieties that contain alloys as well, including steel and bronze.

Metal clay containing alloys is less expensive as the metals themselves carry smaller price tags. Precious metals are more expensive, increasing the price of the clay that contains them. The price of the metal in the clay determines the price range for the medium, as well as the appearance, quality, and value of the items created with it.

PMC can be used to create beads, jewelry, and even small sculptured pieces. It can be shaped with the same techniques used with soft clay. Hand-shaping is common. It can also be used with clay molds. Some artisans create their own unique molds for use with PMC.

After being shaped, the clay is allowed to dry before being fired. Firing can be completed through various means. A kiln can be used, though some artisans will use a handheld gas-fueled torch. A gas stove can also be an inexpensive and easy method of firing items created from PMC. The type of PMC used determines the firing method needed. There are three varieties of PMC and each requires a different firing temperature to produce the right conditions to fuse the metal fragments together.

In the firing process, there are changes that take place. The binding material that holds the precious metal fragments burns away during firing. The fine metal fragments fuse together, creating a solid metal piece. The entire process causes shrinkage in the final piece. The shrinkage amount depends on the product that is used but can be anywhere between 12 and 30 percent.

The shrinking that occurs with PMC makes it easier for artisans to create very fine pieces. It can be quite difficult and challenging to craft a minute item with pure metal as the base medium. It is easier and simpler to create such an item with PMC. It can be crafted in a larger size and then shrunk to the desired final size. When the artisan knows the percentage of shrinkage with a particular product, they can then create a piece that will shrink just the right amount to create the desired end result.

Silver metal clay is perfect for enameling, producing objects that are just under one percent pure silver. Gold metal clay is more expensive but creates pieces with a rich color and fine appearance. Both can be used to create solid metal pieces and also be good choices for creating small accents that are combined with other larger objects.

Artisans use PMC to create simple metal pieces and ornate components of other larger projects. The uses for PMC vary widely, limited only by the imagination of the user. Many individuals use the medium in the creation of jewelry and jewelry components. It is also commonly used in the creation of small statues. It can easily be used to make fine designs for decorating wooden structures as well.

PMC is sold in lumps and packaged in sealed sleeves to keep it moist. The moisture keeps the clay soft and workable. It can be purchased in pre-filled syringes that contain a softer paste-like version of the medium. Jars filled with thin slips of this medium can also be found.

PMC was developed in Japan in the early 1990s by Dr. A. Morikawa, a metallurgist. It contains miniscule pieces of pure silver or gold. When fired, the organic, non-toxic binding material burns away and the fine metal fuses together to create a solid finished metal piece.

There are three varieties of PMC, each designed to be fired at a different temperature. The Standard PMC has to be fired in a kiln and must achieve a temperature of 900 degrees Celsius to achieve the proper consistency.

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation developed the other two varieties of PMC. The second type is called PMC+ and can be fired at 810 degrees Celsius. The final version is PMC3 and can be fired at 599 degrees Celsius, making it a good choice for crafters who work with their home’s gas stove.

PMC carries 22k and 18k yellow gold clay. They also carry silver and platinum clay. The platinum and the 18k gold varieties are only sold in Japan.

3rd Anniversary Gift - Boy, I’m In Trouble Now

August 31st, 2010 by Alfred Lancer

Your third anniversary is coming up and your mind is racing as you browse countless gift ideas, a new pair of shoes, a tie L, flowers, jewelry? Then just like last year and the year before your brain goes into full overload, shuts down and triggers “gift shopping procrastination” till the last minute when in desperation you grab a cheesy scarf or tie depending on the sex of the recipient.

Keeping a marriage for three years can be a tough job. Surpassing every challenge and overcoming obstacles of married life can be quite difficult. Anyone who can reach this milestone should be able to get through finding a thoughtful gift.

What gift are you going to choose for your loved one? In your mind, you probably think it must be expensive, or it must be unique. Well a gift need not always be expensive to be appreciated. Remember the old saying “It is the thought that counts”, While this is very true, we need to clear up one important point, the keyword in that saying is “thought”. This does NOT mean that you “thought” enough to get a gift, but instead refers to the thoughtfulness that went into the choosing of a gift whether it be homemade or outrageously expensive.

Leather is the traditional 3rd year wedding anniversary. Leathers are known to be strong, warm, flexible and durable as well. it has strong qualities like that of the married couple who has stayed together three years. So with that in mind, lets look at some leather gift ideas.

Leather clothing - you should check your spouses’ closet before buying leather clothes. Leather jackets can be appealing to almost everyone.

Leather shoes & bags / handbags - check your spouses’ shoe size before buying new leather shoes, be extra careful in choosing handbags, because wives are choosy when it comes to their accessories. You might want to enlist the help of one of her friends in choosing a gift like this.

Leather wallets - be careful with choosing the wallet for your hubby. Like wives, they can also be meticulous about it.

Leather roses - yes you read that right, and yes they are available, just search leather roses on any search engine.

Leather belts - this is a practical gift. Check out the size of your spouse before buying one.

Leather gloves - there are many type of gloves that you can choose. This is great for areas with cold temperature.

Leather desk accessories - check your spouses’ deck, is it organized? Give him/her a leather desk set to organize his/her desk.

Leather briefcase - this is the right gift for people on the go or for executives and lawyers.

Leather sporting goods - Is your spouse a sports fanatic? Footballs, baseball gloves and a lot of other sports equipment is made from leather.

Leather luggage - plan to have a romantic out of the country trip? Surprise him / her with a new luggage bag.

Next week we’ll cover the fourth wedding anniversary.

Thinking About Jewels

August 30th, 2010 by Mammy Jenkins

There are two main categories of gemstones: the precious stones and the semi-precious stones. Only diamond, sapphire, emerald, and rub are labeled as precious stones and all the others fall under semi-precious stones category. For a time, amethyst was categorized as a precious stone until the discovery it massive volume were unearthed in Brazil by 19th century. Even if it is not a gemstone, some actually recognized pearl as a precious stone also. Presently, gemstones are widely used to flair up fashion creations and even jewelries but the 4 precious stones are always the more popular of them all

The hardest form of precious stones is diamond, discovered initially about 6,000 years ago, they have always been recognized as a precious stone, from 19th century onwards, diamonds became more and more popular as new techniques of processing are introduced, and more supply are coming up.

Several people also adore ruby as one of their favorite gemstones. Although ruby may come is different shades of red, the most sought after ruby is that with pigeon blood hue. Rubies are by its innate nature, full of minute imperfections that is why most experts use this characteristic as their determinants to spot the genuine ones from the fake ones. Most available rubies are treated and sold at reasonable value while those that are not treated is more expensive. For the rubies, those with higher quality are rubies that are not treated while the treated ones are more common and affordable.

Sapphire, all gem quality (corundum) that is not red is called sapphire, this name is associated with the color blue and is highly prized as a gemstone. Normally ranges from very pale blue to a deep indigo but the most valuable is a clear, deep blue, some stones called “colour change sapphire”, exhibit different shades of blue in natural and artificial light. There are other sapphires that come in other colors like yellow, orange, and even black but these are actually considered only a fancy sapphires. It should be noted that prior to 19th century, only the blue ones were recognized as sapphires.

Sapphires and rubies fall under one classification (corundum) while emeralds belong to a different class (beryl). Emeralds are generally regarded as a special but those with flawless textures and great colors are most highly sought after. To improve its quality, emeralds are commonly subjected to being oiled. To get a genuine expensive emerald however, you must always seek experts advise. All of these gemstones have synthetic counterparts that are make in laboratories a synthetic diamond is a cubic zirconia, and ruby, sapphire and emerald synthetic are called created gems, created ruby, created sapphire and created emeralds. Despite its being synthetic, most people are fond of these replicates because they are free from any inclusions normally found in genuine stones. That is why for most people, synthetic gemstones are also viewed with high relevance. The hardness of these stones are measured in moh’s scale: diamond at 10, ruby and sapphire at 9, and emerald at 7.5. They will stand up to being worn frequently and if cleaned regularly will stay as beautiful as the day you got them. The best way to clean diamonds, ruby, and sapphire is in a ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, but when it comes to emeralds I do not recommend that you use a ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, it may remove the oils that emeralds are treated with to hide the natural inclusions, a little detergent in some warm water and a soft toothbrush will be a little gentler and will not damage the stone. Finally, if you are thinking of investing on something that is truly timeless and elegant, consider buying these gemstones as they will surely retain their ageless brilliance through the years.

Placing a person’s brooches vintage out is very pleasant. Acquire the vintage antique engagement rings of your desires now.

Why A Jewellery Stand Is Better Than A Jewellery Box

August 29th, 2010 by Marie Swansin

Jewellery communicates a lot about their owner, whether they are hanging around your neck, wrapped around your fingers, encircling your wrist, or dangling on your ears. But they are not always on you. They are put in an enclosed–sometimes locked–spaced for storage and safekeeping. There, they remain out of sight and eventually, out of relevance, since you forget what you do not see for a long time. Jewellery boxes have that menacing quality to it.

Boxes only hide the beauty of the jewellery , which are most of the time, bought for their craftsmanship and elegance. If your bedroom is dull, your accessories can bring color, contrast, and accent to it. Want to give your bathroom a little attitude and mood? Maybe it is just a matter of bringing out those shiny stuffs sitting in your jewellery box for quite a while now.

Most accessories, such as necklaces, are always meant to be hung. That is why letting them lie dormant in a jewellery box, however neatly arranged, still falls short in keeping them organized for efficient retrieving when needed. Their charm is meant to be displayed, rather than locked away. They represent your taste and sophistication, and are therefore better off shown than hidden.

Jewellery stands are great replacements for boxes. With them, your accessories are visible and retrievable within seconds. Not only do they hold necklaces, rings, earrings, and other pieces, but they also showcase their vibrance wherever they are placed, whether they are in the privacy of your bedroom, bathroom, or dressing room. Stands keep your jewellery alive in your memory.

Instead of boxes, jewellery stands may be the perfect gift for your female companions of all shapes and sizes, colors and ages. You do not need a thick wallet to purchase these stands as giveaways or souvenirs for those bridal showers or birthday parties. You are also doing your girlfriends a great favor when you buy them jewellery stands.

Mary Swansin’s website www.JewelleryStand.com.au offers a range of different jewellery stands. The various jewellery stand designs will match you unique lifestyle and preference like long-chain necklaces, as well as rings and earrings of unusual designs and make.

Customs And Traditions In Relation To The Wedding Rings

August 29th, 2010 by Seth Greene

Throughout the ages the wedding day has been the most special day for most of the people. On this vary day it is believed that the souls of two individuals becomes one. And as the symbol of this union the custom of exchange of rings between the bride and the groom is followed. The custom of exchange of rings both for marriage and betrothal seems to be quite old a tradition. This tradition has come through ages and is still in its height of popularity.

In the customs of most of the countries the wedding ring is worn on the left hand ring finger. It is believed that there is a vein that generates from this finger and goes straight to the heart. Thus the belief is that there is a direct connection of the heart to that finger. Though in actual reality there is no such vein in that finger according to the medical study. Therefore there is no binding that one should wear the wedding ring on that finger only. As in many countries the tradition already exists of wearing the wedding ring on the ring finger of the right had. Thus the finger on which you wear the wedding ring does not matter so much.

According to the tradition of Britain it is the duty of the best man to keep track of the wedding rings of the bride and the groom and they are the one who present the ring at the symbolic moment of the exchange of the wedding rings. Sometimes in case of elaborate weddings it is the custom that a young boy from the family of the bride or groom may assist the bride or the groom as the ring bearer. Thus it is seen that the tradition in relation to the exchange of the wedding rings differs in different cultures and customs. But the fact is that the custom of exchange of rings remains almost the same in almost every customs.

In case of the style and the material of the wedding rings there are also the differences n different traditions. However, in the most common cases it is the gold that is the most preferred material for the wedding rings. It is often seen that women generally wear narrow bands while men have broader bands.

As for the style of the wedding rings in France and French speaking countries there is common patter of the ring of three interwoven rings are considered as the wedding ring. These three rings stands for the Christian virtues of faith, hope and love. As in Greek a kind of puzzle rings are offered to the bride as a test of the women. This is kind of set of interlocking metal bands which the women have to arrange in such an order so that they form a single ring. In some parts of Europe and North America a custom is followed by the women of wearing two rings on the same finger one of which is the engagement ring and the other the wedding band.

The Hunt For The Pearl - Most Dangerous Occupation On Earth

August 29th, 2010 by James Tomlinson

Pearls - sought after for their intrinsic beauty for thousands of years. They used to be the pinnacle of jewelry, more expensive than gold and silver combined and its’ only within the recent 100 years that modern technology has changed this fact. Today, most pearls are cultivated and grown in huge farms, making them available to the mass consumer market. Pearl necklaces are particularly popular.

It wasn’t always like that though. Once, pearl diving was one of the most dangerous activities you could possible do. Imagine grabbing hold of a heavy rock and then jumping in the water to let yourself sink 100 feet onto the seabed. Then having to use a knife to cut free ouysters before returning tot he surface - and doing all of this on one breath of air. While it may sound as a fascinating story, you certainly wouldn’t want to do it yourself. Which is also why it was mainly performed by slaves or the desperately poor.

That’s also why it was mostly performed by slaves or the very poor, and it’s also why the art of pearl diving is hardly practiced any more. There are simply better alternatives. Cultured pearls have taken over the market and at much lower prices than their natural variants. They also do not require anyone to risk their life hunting for them.

Still, there are a few places in the world, where the hunt for the natural pearl still goes on. One of these places is in Bahrain, a small gulf state with crystal clear waters. Bahrain is one of the centers for trade with natural pearls as cultured specimens are simply banned from trade. The state has made an conscious effort to keep waters clean and habitats preserved, even with the oil trade taking its heavy toll.

It does make for an interesting story, if also a little alarming. Does it make a pearl more beautiful that is has been retrieved from the far depths of the sea? Some would say it does.
