All The Facts On Wooden Hangers For Your Home Closet
August 31st, 2010 by Chris Channing
Hangers of the wooden variety are among the most sturdy, refined, and useful for things such as hanging up suits. Wooden hangers also have more options in colors, prices, and materials than what metal hangers do. Shopping for wooden hangers is easy too, thanks to local and online retail.
Wooden hangers are sturdy enough to carry a suit coat, an undershirt, and a pair of pants all on the same hanger. It’s true that a metal hanger could do the same thing, but the metal hanger would be more likely to leave a crease or indent. Plastic hangers bend under pressure, and over time won’t be able to give suits the proper posture they need to stay in great condition.
The ideal hanger would be able to keep all pressure points to a minimum so clothes aren’t damaged. A hanger with pressure points won’t do any damage in a short period of time, but over many months it could cause creases and partially damage fine clothes. Wood is great and being sturdy, and also at distributing the weight evenly so pressure points aren’t a problem.
Make a distinction between cheap wood hangers and the premium type. When you buy a cheap wooden hanger, you are likely just buying plastic that was made to give the appearance of wood! You will spend about $1 or more for a hanger, assuming you buy in bulk and find a good deal. Of course, it never hurts to pay more for a hanger that will do you better justice.
The type of wood the hanger is made up of can affect the price you pay. Most hangers are made out of a cheaper wood and then stained or styled to make it look like another. An actual dark cherry wood would be an example of an expensive type of wood that is often imitated. If you can, pay the extra money for the quality- but that doesn’t mean you have to splurge and get a rare type of wood either.
Before making your purchase, ensure that the wood hanger you pick is polished and smooth. This isn’t normally a problem with wood hangers that are actually made out of plastic or sub par materials- but natural wood is able to get scuffed up in processing and handling. The hanger might snag delicate materials such as lingerie if you aren’t careful and purchase a hanger that was poorly treated.
