What About Dressing Up In Adult Halloween Costumes?
March 8th, 2010 by Susan West
Adult Halloween costumes need to be planned out carefully when worn. When you’ve already gotten past the point of puberty you may not be so easily accepted wearing one. But you can still sport adult Halloween costumes despite what others may have to say. The only thing you’ll have to decide on is what men’s costume (or women’s costume) would be the most appropriate for you this Halloween.
The company you keep might help you decide this all-important, yearly question. Do you have a regular tradition of picking out an outfit with your best bud to wear at their Halloween get together? If so the answer is easy.
It’s probably best to think about where you will be wearing your Halloween costume. Will it require a wig or maybe even a cape. There are trendy adult Halloween costumes and there are also costumes that are much more homemade. If you’ve got a trick-or-treating date, or a big party to attend, why not get dressed on day when it won’t seem weird?
Work and Halloween costumes do not always mix well. Depending on your profession, you may be unable to wear anything different, even on this special day. If you are lucky enough to be able to dress up, be mindful of who will see you and choose your look accordingly. Women may find that some costumes are a little too revealing to wear in to the office. Search for a womens costume that will not viewed as offensive. The same could be said for the guys, although this seems to be less frequently a problem for men’s outfits.
Guys will still have to watch out for any inappropriate messages their costume may convey. A mens costume that features off color language or a racy joke should probably be left at home or saved for a friend’s Halloween party.
If you work in a cubicle at work, it may be a good idea to keep your adult Halloween costumes as small and non-cumbersome as possible. You don’t even have to put on the whole costume; a portion can do the job until you get off work and are ready to wear the rest. A headband with ‘bunny’ or ‘mouse’ ears could be all the adult Halloween costumes you’ll need.
Also, when attending a Halloween soiree, check with the host regarding what guests will be coming. You don’t want to get dressed up in one of your super adult Halloween costumes only to find out that children will be in attendance. No one wants to be wearing an inappropriate costume in front of a little kid.
Take steps to make sure this isn’t another year where you choose to wear some obtrusive clown suit to a party where no one else has bothered to change out of street clothes. Adult Halloween costumes are better when worn to an actual ‘costume party’. To avoid any of this, call ahead with questions if you have to; or you could just do your thing without a worry for what another may think!
Adult Halloween costumes can be just as much fun as any children’s costumes. Choose something that fits your personality, yet is appropriate for who will see you. Following a few simple tips can help streamline your holiday and prevent you from falling into any social Halloween traps. Have fun with adult Halloween costumes, but do so responsibly.
